An artisan's hands pulling waxed thread through a cognac leather upper

Our craft

Every pair has a maker.

Izzy Crafts exists to keep the human hand present in an industry that has largely replaced it with machines.

Why we exist

Something was being lost.

As footwear moved to machines and factories, the people who shaped leather by hand, cutting, stitching and finishing each piece with judgement no machine can copy, were pushed to the edges of an industry they built. We exist to put that skill back at the centre.

Most shoes today are built for the factory, not the foot: standard sizes, generic shapes, made quickly and cheaply. The choice has been between pairs that are affordable but disposable, or bespoke pairs that are excellent but out of reach. We make genuinely handmade, customisable footwear at a price and timeline real people can reach.

Before a pair reaches you, it passes through each stage of making, from design and choosing the leather to cutting, stitching, finishing and inspection, with a different craftsperson leaving their mark at each one. That is what we mean when we say every pair has a maker.

From hide to your feet

How a pair is made

Four of the stages every Izzy Crafts pair passes through, all by hand.

  1. Hands cutting a shoe pattern from a hide of cognac leather with a round knife

    01

    Cutting

Each piece is cut from the hide by hand, following the grain so the leather moves the way it should.

  2. Hands hand-stitching a leather upper held in a wooden clam

    02

    Stitching

Uppers are stitched with waxed thread, stitch by stitch, for seams that hold their line for years.

  3. Hands pulling a leather upper over a wooden shoe last with lasting pliers

    03

    Lasting

The upper is pulled over a wooden last and left to take its shape, which is where the fit is made.

  4. Hands burnishing the edge of a leather sole with a wooden tool

    04

    Finishing

Edges are burnished, the leather is conditioned and every pair is inspected before it leaves the bench.

What we hold to

Our values

  • Craftsmanship

Every pair carries the mark of a human hand. Precision is never traded for speed.

  • Integrity

Honest materials, honest pricing and honest claims. What we say about a pair is what it delivers.

  • Individuality

No two customers are the same, so no two pairs need to be. Customisation is a right, not a favour.

  • Patience

Good things are not rushed. We protect the time it takes to make something properly.
